What is the NDIS?

Understanding the Pieces: NDIS vs. NDIA vs. NDIS Commission

The NDIS (The Scheme): The National Disability Insurance Scheme is the actual program and funding model itself. It is the framework that provides the funding directly to you so you can access disability supports, build skills, and achieve your goals.
The NDIA (The Agency): The National Disability Insurance Agency is the government body that runs the NDIS. They manage the scheme’s budget, assess your eligibility, handle the administration of your plans, and decide how much funding you receive.
The NDIS Commission (The Watchdog): The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an independent government body that regulates the providers. Who Can Access NDIS Support?

Age: You must be aged under 65 when you apply.
Residency: You must live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, hold a Permanent Visa, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
